On March 26, 1950 Rev. Roland Hood, an SBC Missionary to the Northwest, placed an ad in the Statesman Journal inviting interested parties to discuss establishing a new congregation in Oregon's Capitol City. Ten people responded and attended the first meeting in a hotel room in Salem, Oregon.
On April 9, 1950 eleven individuals voted to organize Capital Baptist Church. They rented space from the 7th Day Adventist Church at Hood & Summer St. and held the first services there in May 1950.
On September 9, 1950 Capital Baptist Church was formally constituted with thirty three charter members.
The Groundbreaking Ceremony for the Worship Center was held at the church's location on Lansing Ave. in May of 1998. Volunteers from as far away as Alabama, as well as from across the Northwest assisted with the two and a half year construction project.
The dedication of the Worship Center was conducted simultaneous to the church's 50th Anniversary on Sunday, September 17, 2000. God has been gracious and faithful throughout the church's history.
Praise the Lord!
