“Oh, for the simple life of by-gone years!” (Whatever that simple life was!) Have you been guilty of verbalizing this? Sometimes as we attempt to keep up with all that is going on in the world around us, we might want to stop our world and get off. Everything around us in this complex world of technology screams “simplify!” Church life may seem hectic from time to time as well, but there are ideas floating around out there to make an attempt at solving this.Simple Church is the “buzz book” at this time. The book is authored by Rainer and Geiger. Thom Rainer is president and CEO of Lifeway Christian Resources. Simple Church sets forth a plan for churches to do effective yet simple discipleship.
We have realized through the years that our plan for discipleship was not working. For discipleship to be effective there must be transformation taking place in individual lives and leaders at Capital have not been satisfied with our results. With the busyness of church life it seemed there was never sufficient energy or personnel to do discipleship effectively. Simple Church offers a plan whereby everything done has as its objective the maturity of disciples – the transforming of disciples, if you please. At least, this is my “take” on it.
Whether or not Dr. Crews was inspired in anyway by the philosophy of this book, he has attempted in his reorganization plan for the Northwest Baptist Convention to simplify. One of the two objectives set out by Dr. Crews is for our churches to be healthy; therefore, he has set forth a simple plan for this to happen.
Keep your ears open! You will be hearing more about this.
