John Lipton

Senior Pastor

Pastor John joined the Capital Baptist Church family as Senior Pastor in 1994. Prior to his arrival at CBC John was a Church Planter with the North American Mission Board in his hometown of Syracuse, New York.

A professional percussionist, John felt a call to ministry while working for the Colorado Springs Symphony. John married his beautiful bride, Elaine, in 1984. In his spare time, John enjoys skiing with his son, Geoffrey and playing alongside daughter Lisa, a talented clarinetist, in various orchestras and instrumental ensembles in Salem and Portland, Oregon. John holds degrees in Music from Syracuse and Temple Universities, as well as his Masters of Divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Additionally, John has done further studies at Gateway Seminary.


Thomas McCarty III

Associate Pastor for Young Adult & Family Ministries

Pastor Thomas joined the Capital Baptist Church family in 2018 and serves as our Associate Pastor for Young Adults and Family Ministry. Beginning in the Fall of 2019 Pastor Thomas will be responsible for leading The Lighthouse, Capitals new Young Adult Worship Service meeting on Tuesday nights. He has been married to his beautiful bride McKenzie since 2017. McKenzie serves Capital as the leader of our Junior High and High School Youth Group. The McCartys are from North Texas and enjoy Kayaking, their dog Ollie, and cheering on the Texas Rangers Baseball team. Thomas holds a BS in History & Church Administration as well as a Master’s degree in Christian Discipleship, both from Dallas Baptist University.


Diane Fowler

Administrative Assistant/Bookkeeper/Church Clerk

Diane joined the Capital Baptist Church family in 1988 as a member and started working in our office as the Administrative Assistant in 2002. She has been married to Lonnie since 1972 and together, they enjoy their large family made up of three adult children and seven amazing grandkids. The Fowlers also enjoy camping, spending time at the beach and attending their grandkids’ various activities.


Linda Warberg

Volunteer Education Director

Linda and Bob joined the Capital Baptist Church family in 1987 and took on the role of Education Director in 2008. She and Bob have been married since 1971 and together they have two adult children and four grandchildren. For many years Linda was a public school teacher, Administrator, and Superintendent across the Willamette Valley. Since 2012 Linda has served George Fox University as a Professor and Director of the Special Education Endorsement Program. The Warbergs are a sports minded family enjoying cheering on the Oregon Ducks almost as much as their grandkids sporting events!


Bryan Haws

Volunteer Worship Leader

Bryan joined the Capital Baptist Church family in 2008 and accepted the volunteer role of Worship Leader in 2016. Bryan has been married to his beautiful bride Vicky since 2015 and in August of 2019, they welcomed their first daughter, Chloe, to the Haws family. Bryan teaches English for Salem-Keizer Public Schools by day and as an Adjunct at Corban University, his alma mater, by night. Bryan plays 8 instruments and is a classically trained vocalist. He started learning from his mom, a professional musician in the second grade. In their spare time, the Hawses enjoy going to craft fairs, traveling nationally and internationally, going on Mission trips, reading, playing games, watching movies, and catching a nap when Chloe permits! Goooo Ducks!
