Pastor
We are a small, loving, Bible-based community and gospel-minded church seeking a Senior Pastor (full-time, exempt) to lead our congregation.
Our PASTOR
The Pastor is responsible to God for his calling and should at all times be under the direction of the Holy Spirit. Because of his calling from the Lord to be a pastor and overseer, he should strive to be the spiritual leader set forth in 1 Timothy 3:1-7.
PRINCIPLE FUNCTION
The Pastor is responsible to the church for using his spiritual gifts and talents in proclamation of the gospel and for pastoral care. He is responsible for providing overall leadership and guidance to the church in carrying out the mission statement and objectives of the church.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
1) Plan and lead the worship services in conjunction with other staff members; deliver well prepared sermons; and lead the observance of ordinances. To do this, the church will recognize that he needs to set aside time to study and prepare.
2) Have a vision for the future of God’s Church and lead the church body to accomplish that vision. As he leads the Church in evangelizing and caring for persons in the church and community, he will promote the vision God has given him.
3) Provide leadership that will encourage ministerial staff to disciple new and mature Christians in their spiritual growth to:
a) Learn and teach the basics of our faith and doctrine to the congregation.
b) Discover their spiritual gifts and talents.
c) Become actively involved in the ministry of the Church.
d) Mentor and cultivate others to become actively involved in the total ministry of the church.
e) Become actively involved in reaching out into the community in Jesus’ name.
4) Support the appropriate committee(s) in evaluating, developing and conducting the total stewardship program of the Church, assist the Stewardship Committee as requested in planning the yearly budget, and make the congregation aware of their responsibility to God in using their gifts, money, talents, and time for the total stewardship program of the church for the glory of God.
5) Conduct counseling sessions; perform wedding ceremonies; conduct funeral and memorial services; make hospital visits; visit the homebound; and perform all other such pastoral duties, using appropriate discretion at all times as he performs these duties.
6) Serve as chief supervisor of church staff or if he chooses not to be responsible for day-to-day supervision of the staff, assign this to the Associate Pastor or other designee.
7) Work in a cooperative manner with church staff, Deacons, Church Council, elected leaders and committees of the church in carrying out the church’s mission statement.
8) Serve as ex-officio member of church committees.
9) Moderate church business meetings if he chooses or recommend an alternate to the Nominating Committee for selection.
10) Cooperate with associational, state, and denominational leaders in matters of mutual interest and concern. Keep the church informed of denominational development. Cooperate with pastors and leaders of other denominations in the local area.
SPECIFIC EXPECTATIONS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and a deep love for the Church.
2. Have good interpersonal and leadership skills.
3. Have a willingness to grow in his own spiritual and personal development.
4. Be of like faith and belief.
While we prefer a pastor with a degree from an SBC Seminary, we will also take into consideration other education and ministry experiences that may have prepared him to serve in this position. He needs to have had adequate ministry experience to demonstrate healthy church growth, good team-building skills, a proper work/family/life balance, and effective time management.
Ultimately, we believe the next pastor of Capital needs to be a growth-minded, Spirit-led man that leads in humility, is a passionate and capable teacher of biblical truth, has the desire to lead us to engage the unbelieving world around us, and has a plan to develop us into mature, reproducing disciples of Christ.
Our CHURCH
Capital Baptist is a loving congregation that is looking for a leader to help us move forward. Capital has a strong desire to discern where the Lord is at work and join Him there. As such, we have a remarkable amount of optimism and unity regarding the future.
We desire for inward growth (developing community among membership/attendees) and outward growth (community engagement). We are actively engaging our community through a partnership with Hispanic and Pacific Islander congregations that meet in our building. In addition, we are actively involved in leading addiction recovery ministries (The Most Excellent Way) and volunteering in our local schools (Washington Elementary and Waldo Middle School).
The church is in a stable financial position with zero debt and steady giving. We have a large sanctuary and newly constructed Education buildings that give us plenty of room to grow. Our building is strategically located across the street from two schools and surrounded by residential neighborhoods.
In partnership with the Northwest Baptist Convention, Capital Baptist has recently undergone an extensive, “Healthy Church Assessment” and can provide more details and insight from this report as needed.
Salary package -this will be negotiated later based on experience and education.
